Need to know more about CSU Health Network Charges? Need a receipt for those services?

The Hub cannot detail any information regarding CSU Health Network charges as that information is not shared with us – thankfully, medical information is protected by HIPAA Law – so we will not be able to provide specific information about charges beyond the cost of those charges. You can either access your receipts via the Student Health Portal, or you can use the above contact information to speak with the CSU Health Network about those charges!

What is the CSU Student Health Insurance Requirement?

Colorado State University requires all full-time domestic students and all international students to carry health insurance as a way of protecting the student’s educational investment.  Students must meet this requirement their first semester at CSU and every fall semester thereafter.

Why is health insurance a requirement at CSU?

Most major universities require students to carry health insurance as a way of protecting the student’s educational investment. Even a relatively minor health event, such as a knee injury, could put students in a situation where medical debt precludes their ability to continue in school.

How to meet the CSU Student Health Insurance Requirement

Domestic Students

Colorado State University requires all domestic students taking six (6) or more resident instruction credits to meet the health insurance requirement during their first semester at CSU and every fall semester thereafter.

Students can submit coverage through a private health insurance plan or enroll in the University-sponsored Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Students enrolled in 6 or more resident instruction credits who do not take action by either waiving or enrolling by the published deadline will then be enrolled in SHIP for the semester.

Please note:

The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) premium is billed with student tuition.  Seeing this charge on your student account does not indicate enrollment in the Student Health Insurance Plan. Students can actively enroll through the link below, or will automatically be enrolled on February 4th, 2026 and can begin accessing plan benefits.  Students who take action early by enrolling in SHIP will have access to the plan benefits the day the plan begins on January 1, 2026.

  • If you are considering an individual/family/employer/government plan to meet the health insurance requirement, we encourage you to visit the CSU Health Network’s webpage on qualifying plans.
  • Contact your insurance carrier in advance to see how your plan will cover visits to CSU Health Network. Use the following information:
    • CSU Health Network Tax ID#: 846000545
    • CSU Health Network NPI#: 1528156437

2-3 business days after registering for six or more resident instruction credits, you will receive an email from Academic Health Plans (AHP) to your colostate.edu email address inviting you to create an account to complete the health insurance requirement.

Please note:

NEW this year, the CSU Student Health Insurance Waiver/Election Portal will be managed by Academic Health Plans (AHP), powered by Care26.  You will receive emails directly from AHP prompting you to meet the health insurance requirement or enroll in SHIP.  All correspondence from AHP will come from an ahpcare.com web address or email account and is a safe and protected site where the insurance enrollment and waiver portal is hosted.

Follow the instructions in the email to create your account. You will be prompted to create a password. Your username will be your colostate.edu email address in the following format: [email protected]

Choose one of the following and submit the form:

  1. WAIVE the CSU Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) by providing proof of a comparable individual/employer/government health insurance plan. Enter the requested policy holder information from your health insurance card in the secure online form. Your waiver application will be audited with your insurance carrier to ensure the coverage is active and meets CSU, state, and federal requirements. Your waiver application is not complete until you receive an approval notification via email.
    OR
  2. ENROLL in the CSU Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) by electing coverage in the secure online form. Do not wait. Early enrollment ensures your coverage is in place and you are in possession of your insurance identification information by the plan effective date and that you may seek medical care or fill prescriptions without delay
Please note:
For students who waive the Student Health Insurance Plan, this charge will be removed from your student account within 3-5 business days after an approved waiver email has been received.
    • If students/ families complete your waiver prior to the third week of July, you will not see the charge on your student account.
    • If it has not been completed it by the time tuition and fees for the semester are billed, the insurance premium is charged with the tuition and fees.
    • Students need to complete the waiver process their first fall and each fall thereafter.
IMPORTANT:

There will be no refunds or reversals of charges after the deadline.

International Students

International students are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). If you have other health insurance coverage, including an employer plan or an individual health plan, please submit a waiver request. Students with approved sponsored health plans may submit those to the International Programs Office.

Please note, health insurance plans marketed solely to international students are often not filed and approved in the United States, have limited benefits, provider networks and/or coverage periods that do not comply with CSU’s Health Insurance Requirements. Insurance companies that do not meet the Health Insurance Requirements include but are not limited to GBG Insurance, HDL Global Specialty, ISO, PGH (United), PSI, Student Medicover, and Tata AIG.

RamCare Supplement Program

Designed for students who have health insurance coverage other than the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), RamCare is an inexpensive way to pay for out-of-pocket costs for services at the CSU Health Network, such as co-pays, co-insurance, or deductibles. Click here for more information on or to enroll in RamCare.
