1. Create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID
- The Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID is a secure way to confirm your identity when accessing your financial aid information. It must be used to electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents including the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Students and contributors are required to use an FSA ID, made up of a username and password, to complete the FAFSA.
2. Complete the Free Application for Financial Aid
- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the federal government’s application to determine financial aid eligibility for most types of financial aid.
- Students who are not eligible for FAFSA due to not being a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen may be able to complete the CASFA application instead if they qualify for Colorado ASSET.
- Use federal tax return information to complete the FAFSA.
- List Colorado State University-Fort Collins to receive your information. Our school code is 001350.
3. Verify Information on Your FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS)
- Federal Student Aid will send you a FSS with your FAFSA information.
- Review all information for accuracy.
- If any of the information is inaccurate, please login to the FAFSA, make corrections, and submit.
- Keep all submitted information for your records
4. Next Steps
- We will notify you, via your university email account, regarding your next steps in the financial aid process. Check your email regularly, it is the primary way we communicate with students.
