Cost of Attendance

Cost of Attendance 2025-2026

As you review your cost of attendance at Colorado State University, be sure to keep in mind that the expenses presented are estimates for the average cost of attendance for a full-time student during the nine-month academic year.

Factors that may impact your actual expenses include:

  • Your academic status at CSU – In addition to Base Tuition and Fees, all junior and senior-level students, sophomores in the College of Business, and graduate students are assessed Differential Tuition.
  • Your major/program of study – Charges for Technology and Special Course Fees vary by major, as do charges for distance degree programs.
  • Your living situation – if you live on campus, the Residence Hall and Meal Plan you select may raise your costs.
  • Your lifestyle – the Other Educational Costs category includes personal/miscellaneous expenses (more information on this in the chart at the bottom of this page, in “Other Educational Expenses”) and applicable student loan fees. These will vary based on your lifestyle, marital status and living situation.

How Your Cost of Attendance is Calculated:

This amount is calculated with the assumption of full-time enrollment. A 15 credit hour amount is used for undergraduate students, while a 9 credit hour amount is used for graduate students. Your actual expenses may vary. Tuition and fee amounts are projected for financial aid purposes and subject to change, pending approval by the CSU Board of Governors.

For students residing in CSU housing, an average amount assuming a double-occupancy room under an “Any 19 + Add On” meal plan is used. Off-campus housing for undergraduates and all graduate/professional students is calculated using rates prescribed by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE). Your actual expenses may vary.

*Please be aware, if you are a Resident Assistant or Community Coordinator, Housing and Food will not be included in your Cost Attendance as you will not be charged for these costs.  Your Financial Aid will be adjusted accordingly.

An allowance within guidelines prescribed by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) is used for reasonable textbook and course supply expenses. The total estimated allowance represents a rounded number based on the full-time enrollment amount used in approximating tuition & fee expenses (15 credit hours undergraduate/9 credit hours graduate). Your actual expenses may vary.

An allowance is made for reasonable transportation expenses that may be incurred by students while attending classes in Fort Collins and for occasional trips home; this amount is within guidelines prescribed by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE). Non-resident students are permitted an additional premium intended to support additional trips to his/her home state during the academic year. Your actual expenses may vary.

This component includes allowances for personal and miscellaneous expenses as prescribed by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) for the nine-month academic year. If you borrow student loans, this amount will increase to account for any applicable loan fees. Graduate and professional students will have an allowance for the CSU Student Health Insurance Plan added to this component.

Personal Expenses:

All students need to have a budget for personal expenses such clothing, personal items, laundry, going to a movie, or buying a pizza. The estimate we provide, $185 per month, is for planning purposes only; it does not represent a direct cost of personal expenses while attending the university.

Expenses vary from one student to the next based on their particular needs and life style, particularly with regard to transportation. Some students use bikes and public transportation to get everywhere they need to do, while others students opt to maintain their own vehicles. Non-resident students usually have increased transportation expense due to trips home during the holiday breaks.

You are the best person to determine your own costs. The amount that we have allowed in the Cost of Attendance is a standard amount which you can allocate in the manner that best meets your needs.
